Frequently Asked Questions

How does your clinic differ from others?

We focus on personalising our sessions to your needs. Through our partnership with you, we aim to provide the best customised service to achieve your goals.

What can I expect from therapy?

Therapy will begin with your psychologist finding out information from you to better understand your presenting problems. This involves questions about your background and past experiences, as well as current situation. Goals for therapy and a tentative treatment plan will then be discussed and agreed.

You will find therapy most helpful if you maintain an open mind to learn new approaches. It is also helpful if you have open communication with your psychologist. This includes letting your psychologist know when there are changes in your life events or therapy goals, or when you are in doubt about strategies taught.

It is also important for you to find time outside therapy to regularly apply the skills learnt, and put in place strategies or plans discussed in session.  This will enable you to benefit most from therapy.

How many sessions of therapy do I need?

The number of therapy sessions required varies from person to person. This depends on your presenting problems, as well as your goals for therapy. More often than not, more than one session is required, especially when the problem has been present for a period of time.

Usually, the first session will be focused on developing a joint understanding of the presenting problem, and a number of sessions will be required over weeks/months. Your psychologist will discuss this further with you during the first session.

During the course of therapy, you may choose to terminate at any time. Your therapist may also discuss referral to another professional if he / she believes that another professional would provide a more appropriate treatment.

What is the duration for each session?

Each initial consultation is 60 minutes, and subsequent sessions 50 minutes (unless otherwise discussed and agreed).

Do arrive on time for your appointment. If you are late, we will not be able to extend the duration of your session. This is because there may be someone scheduled right after you. We appreciate if you can inform us if you will be late as it helps us plan the time. The full fee for your appointment remains payable.

What are the fees like?

The standard fee is $200 for each consultation session, payable at time of service.

Additional charges will apply if the session extends beyond the time (in blocks of 25 minutes). Additional charges also apply for school/home visits, report writing and letters. For assessments, 50% of the total payment is required at the first testing session.

Reduced rate is available on a case by case basis based on your financial situation. Unless discussed and agreed, the standard fee will be charged. Please request for reduced rate prior to your session if required. For reduced rate sessions, please note that the rate will be reviewed if situations change (e.g., change of financial situation, frequency of sessions).

What are the available payment methods?

We accept cash, bank transfer, PayNow or PayLah.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

The main difference is that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication for psychological problems, while a psychologist supports and guides an individual to better handle the psychological problems faced, e.g. through new coping strategies. As psychologists, we cannot prescribe medication.

Why is there a cancellation fee?

Our appointments are scheduled on an hourly basis. For an appointment where you do not turn up or cancel last minute, it is unlikely for us to reallocate it to someone else and the hour will be left empty.

The possible losses include: that your therapy may be delayed due to your missed session, another client on a waitlist may miss out on an opportunity for therapy, and the therapist will have a loss of income. We thus seek your understanding for a 50% charge for late cancellation.

We do, however, understand that there are emergencies that may crop up and we will waive the cancellation fee on a case by case basis. Hence, please inform us as soon as possible if you need to cancel, and the reason.

A late cancellation fee is a common practice where sessions are by appointments. We hope that you can see that this is a fair and reasonable policy for all. Thank you for your understanding!
