DBT-Informed Skills Group Therapy

Brief Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Programme

Overview of programme

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), the model of treatment from which the skills referenced in this group program originates, is a broad-based cognitive-behavioural treatment that has been found to be effective for a wide range of disorders and problems, including depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and addictions.

This brief 8-week group therapy program focuses on building skills through didactic and experiential components. The primary aim is to reduce skills deficits linked to difficulties with control of emotions (either over, or under control) and resultant behaviours. Emotion dysregulation has been linked to different mental health problems, in part due to challenges it creates in areas of impulse control, interpersonal relationships, and self-image.

The overall goal of DBT skills training is to help individuals change behavioural, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with problems they face in their lives.

For Whom

  • Individuals aged 21 years and above.
  • Individuals who are keen to benefit from the skill building referenced.

Kindly note that an initial consultation (60 minutes, $220) is required for new clients to assess your suitability for this programme.

The group programme will be conducted by  Ms Darshini Nithianantham.

Ms Darshini is a Clinical Psychologist with several years of practice experience in complex mental health work, including tertiary psychiatric care. She has previously conducted group therapy programs, including DBT Skills Groups for distressed individuals in an inpatient setting.
