Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our services? Find answers to common questions below.

If you don't see what you're looking for, feel free to contact us!

Q: How does your clinic differ from others?

A: We focus on personalizing sessions to your individual needs, offering affordable rates with subsidized options, and providing a safe, inclusive space for all clients. We're committed to making quality mental health services accessible.

Q: What can I expect from therapy?

A: Therapy will begin with your psychologist finding out information from you to better understand your presenting problems. This involves questions about your background and past experiences, as well as current situation. Goals for therapy and a tentative treatment plan will then be discussed and agreed.

You will find therapy most helpful if you maintain an open mind to learn new approaches. It is also helpful if you have open communication with your psychologist. This includes letting your psychologist know when there are changes in your life events or therapy goals, or when you are in doubt about strategies taught.

It is also important for you to find time outside therapy to regularly apply the skills learnt and put in place strategies or plans discussed in session. This will enable you to benefit most from therapy.

Q: What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A:  The main difference is that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication for psychological problems, while a psychologist supports and guides an individual to better handle the psychological problems faced, e.g. through new coping strategies. As psychologists, we cannot prescribe medication.

Q: What is the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?

A: Psychologists typically have more extensive training and can conduct psychological assessments and diagnoses. Counsellors focus primarily on therapeutic support. Both can provide effective therapy depending on your needs.

Q: How long are therapy sessions?

A: Initial consultations are 60 minutes. Subsequent sessions are typically 50 minutes.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: The number of therapy sessions required varies from person to person. This depends on your presenting problems, as well as your goals for therapy. More often than not, more than one session is required, especially when the problem has been present for a period of time.

Usually, the first session will be focused on developing a joint understanding of the presenting problem, and a number of sessions will be required over weeks/months. Your psychologist will discuss this further with you during the first session.

During the course of therapy, you may choose to terminate at any time. Your therapist may also discuss referral to another professional if he / she believes that another professional would provide a more appropriate treatment.

Q: How often should I attend therapy?

A: Session frequency is flexible and tailored to your needs, goals and preferences.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

A: We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations will incur a fee (50% of standard session rate). Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for our full cancellation policy.

Q: Do you offer weekend or evening appointments?

A: We offer appointments across different days and times within our opening hours, which includes Saturdays. Availability varies by therapist.

Q: How much does therapy cost?

A: Please visit our Fees page for detailed pricing. We offer reduced rates on a case-by-case basis for those who need financial support, as well as subsidies from NCSS for eligible clients.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?

A: We accept cash, bank transfer, PayNow, and PayLah. We do not accept credit cards.

Q: Can I claim insurance for therapy sessions?

A: Some insurance plans cover psychological services. We can provide receipts for you to submit claims, but please check with your insurance provider about coverage and requirements.

Q: Do you accept Medisave?

A: No, we currently do not accept Medisave for therapy sessions.

Q: How do I book my first appointment?

A: You can book by calling or dropping us a message on Whatsapp at +65 8812 4673, emailing hello@hope4tmr.com, or using our contact form. We'll get some basic information and schedule an initial consultation at a time that works for you with a suitable clinician.

Q: What happens during the first session?

A: Your first session is a 60-minute initial consultation where your therapist will get to know you, understand your concerns, discuss your goals, and develop a preliminary treatment plan together. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable.

Q: Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

A: No referral is required. You can contact us directly to book an appointment.

Q: How do I know if therapy is right for me?

A: If you're experiencing emotional difficulties, relationship challenges, stress, or simply want support navigating life's challenges, therapy can help. During your initial consultation, we'll assess together whether therapy is appropriate for your needs.

Q: Can I choose my therapist?

A: Yes, you're welcome to request a specific therapist when booking. You can learn more about our team on our About Us page.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We're located at 19 Lorong Kilat, #01-04, Singapore 598120, near Beauty World MRT (DT5).

Q: Do you offer online therapy?

A: Yes, we offer therapy via secure video or voice call, or in-person at our Bukit Timah location. You can choose the format that works best for you, but we do recommend for the initial consultation to be held in-person.

Q: Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

A: Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many concerns. Your therapist will discuss which format might work best for your specific needs.

Q: What platform do you use for online sessions?

A: We use secure, confidential video platforms. Details will be provided when you book an online session.

Q: Is therapy confidential?

A: Yes, all sessions are confidential. Information shared in therapy is protected by professional ethics and privacy regulations. Exceptions include situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others, child protection concerns, or when disclosure is required by law.

Q: Will you contact my family or employer?

A: No, we will not contact anyone without your explicit consent, except in situations where there are safety concerns.

Q: How do you store my information?

A: We maintain secure records in accordance with professional standards and data protection regulations. Your information is stored confidentially and securely.
